What is the criteria for receiving a Boiler Grant?

Your boiler must be at least 10 years old

Second, the UK Government’s ECO Scheme requires that if you already have a boiler installed then it must be at least 10 years old. This is because in many scenarios it will be more cost-effective to repair your boiler as compared to installing a new boiler if your existing boiler is less than 10 years old as the improvement in efficiency is not sufficient enough to be supported by the ECO Scheme.

1. If you receive any of the following benefits then you will automatically for a Boiler Grant under the ECO Scheme.

2. Starting with ECO 4, If you receive any of these newly added benefits then you will automatically qualify for a Boiler Grant under the ECO Scheme.
Armed Forces Independent Payment Attendance Allowance Carers Allowance Disability Living Allowance (DLA) Severe Disablement Allowance Constant Attendance Allowance
War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit Personal Independence Payment

 

3. receive Child Benefits (subject to not exceeding annual income) for a qualifying child/children for which the person is responsible, then you will automatically qualify for a Boiler Grant under the ECO Scheme.

For 1 Qualifying Child:

For a single claimant - £18,500
Member of a couple - £25,500

For 2 Qualifying Children:

For a single claimant - £23,000
Member of a couple - £30,000

For 3 Qualifying Children:

For a single claimant - £27,500
Member of a couple - £34,500

For 4 Qualifying Children:

For a single claimant - £23,000
Member of a couple - £30,000

Do you have to pay anything to get a Boiler as part of the ECO Scheme?

In most cases, the grant you receive will cover the entire cost for getting a new boiler. However, in some cases the grant will heavily subsidies the cost of a new boiler for you but will not cover the entirety of the cost.

The total amount of funding you will receive as part of the grant is not fixed and will be calculated based on some criteria about the benefits you receive and your home. The age of your existing boiler, size of your home , whether you have double glazing windows installed or not and other features of your home.

How are boiler funded through the ECO Scheme?

To fight against the looming climate change crisis the UK Government has announced its targets to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the country. Many home throughout the UK have old in-efficient boilers which can be replaced by modern A-rated boilers which are more efficient.

The UK Government backed ECO (Energy Company Obligation) scheme provides grants to UK Citizens to have energy efficient boilers installed. The scheme is funded by the “Affordable Wealth Obligation” which requires energy companies based on their energy emissions to pay towards grants for Free replacement boilers for households that meet the eligibility criteria. Additions household energy bills include a “Green Tax” which contributes those in fuel poverty and low-income homes throughout the UK.
